Get On The Bus Ministry
All children deserve the right to touch and see their parents.
We've been sponsoring a bus for over six years. For the first three years, we took children to see their mothers around Mother's Day, at the Women's Prison in Chowchilla, CA. then we started taking the children to see their dads, around Father's Day, at California Men's Colony, in San Luis Obispo, CA.
First Congregational Church provides travel bags for the children and their caregivers, with lots of items to use while on the long bus ride. We will also have breakfast for them at the church prior to their departure. In addition, there will be snacks for on the bus trip both to the prison and for the return home.
Reuniting Families, Restoring Hope
At First Congregational Church of Bakersfield, we are proud to support Get On The Bus, a program that helps children visit their incarcerated parents—many for the first time in years.
Each donation provides a bridge between parent and child, offering healing, connection, and dignity during incredibly difficult times.
